With so many kids and only one teacher, the quality of the education and support we can provide the students in Umasbamba suffers. Students lack the attention they require and because they range in ages from 5 to 18, the level of tailored support also becomes difficult to achieve.
Our teachers need instruction in various subjects and programs to fully support the students in whatever they are learning at their current schools and to open new pathways for learning that have previously not been offered in subjects like music, graphic design, language learning, and the many more areas we would like to offer.
Our greatest focus is in developing and supporting students in these remote communities so that they are prepared and equipped with the tools and knowledge to pursue further education beyond the limitations that are proposed to them, including the ideological possibility of returning as teachers or even just as mentors to support the next generation... Much of the activities we do with the students in Umasbamba require supplies like markers, paper, books, and even recycled items like milk cartons and bottles to show our student the importance of sustainability.
